WhatsApp has announced that your entire chat history can now be seamlessly transferred between operating systems without losing encryption.
At Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event last week, WhatsApp announced a new feature that will allow users to transfer their WhatsApp chat history onto new Samsung phones running Android 10 or higher.

With the introduction of the new feature, anyone wishing to switch between devices running different operating systems can now take their entire WhatsApp app history with them.
The first Samsung devices to enable the feature are the new Samsung Galaxy foldable phones.
Easily transferring one’s WhatsApp chat history to a new device on a different operating system is one of WhatsApp’s most requested features.
With the announced release of the new feature, WhatsApp isn’t only answering users’ requests but also making sure that the safety of their data is protected – by keeping end-to-end default encryption on all messages transferred between platforms.

“Your WhatsApp messages belong to you. That’s why they are stored on your phone by default, and not accessible in the cloud, like many other messaging services,” explains Sandeep Paruchuri, product manager at WhatsApp. “We’re excited for the first time to make it easy for people to securely transfer their WhatsApp history from one operating system to another.”
The feature will also be available to transfer chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa, although WhatsApp will start rolling it out on Android initially, and on Samsung’s newest Galaxy phones, which were unveiled this week during the event.
