WhatsApp is making conversations even more private with a new “Chat Lock” feature, placing conversations in a protected folder.
The new “Chat Lock” feature will move conversations in a password- or biometrics-protected folder. Notifications from those conversations will not display the sender or the actual message content.

WhatsApp is known for promoting privacy, notably with its end-to-end encrypted messages. Chat Lock adds an extra layer of privacy as it will not let anyone, even people who have access to your unlocked phone, see the messages or the sender behind those conversations that are “locked.”
This feature will be great for people who have reason to share their phones from time to time with a family member or those moments where someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives. You can lock a chat by tapping the name of a one-to-one or group and selecting the lock option. To reveal these chats, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter your phone password or biometric.
The new WhatsApp Chat Lock feature is rolling out now, and there will be additional upgrades to look forward to in the future.
“Over the next few months we’re going to be adding more options for Chat Lock, including locking for companion devices, creating a custom password for your chats so that you can use a unique password different from your phone’s,” Meta wrote in a blog post.
