The Meta-owned messaging platform is reportedly working on a new app for iPadOS And MacOS using Mac Catalyst.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing an app for iPadOS, one for macOS as well. The latter will reportedly be built with Mac Catalyst, as Macrumors reports – allowing it to run seamlessly on macOS and iPadOS.

The new WhatsApp app for macOS looks very similar to the one built previously for iPadOS. It presents the same primary interface, with additional minor UI changes necessary to provide a better desktop experience.

MacRumors hypothesizes that the new Mac app will replace the existing macOS WhatsApp app as it will no longer rely on a connected smartphone.

As we reported earlier this month, WhatsApp has introduced the capability to access one single account on multiple devices, with new beta support for iOS and Android.

The new multi-device capability will allow users to link up to four different devices and use the service even when the primary smartphone is not close or does not have an internet connection, and without compromising on privacy.

Lastly, according to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will also enable support for macOS at a later date. The report also suggests that the iPad app may be released first.
